Iran animation to vie as semi-finalist in Italy

Iran animation ‘Bystander’ is set to compete as a semi-finalist in Italian film fest

Iran animation ‘Bystander’, created by Sheyda Kashi, has been selected as a semi-finalist in the second San Mauro Torinese International Film Festival in Italy.

‘Bystander’ is about an old man and his indifference toward a revolution taking place in his country. Looking closely into his life, one will discover how the old man had experienced another revolution as a young person and how he was an active agent back then.

The story shows how and why the man moves from being politically active into a mere bystander.

The flick has won several awards so far, including best animation prize at the 18th 'Picture This' film festival (PTFF) in Canada, second prize in the animation or experimental film section of the 21st edition of the Faludi International Youth Film Festival in Hungary, and the Best Short Animation award at the 3rd Cinemaway Film Festival in Ukraine.

Some of the crew members of the animation are Saloomeh Gol-Naraqi as the background artist, and Bita Aliabadi as the character designer.

San Mauro Torinese International Film Festival was first launched in Italy in 2017.

The festival accepts feature and short films from around the world. The selected movies should have English or Italian subtitle.

The San Mauro Torinese International Film Festival is slated to run its second edition May 23 – 25, 2018, in Turin, Italy.
